German wheelie bin maker opens second UK plant?
German plastics manufacturer Craemer Group has started production at a €27.5m injection moulding facility in Hortonwood West in Telford, UK.
The unit is the group’s second manufacturing site in Telford where it will be producing wheelie bins, pallets as well as storage and transport containers.
The new site includes a 6,000-square-metre production and storage hall as well as adjacent technical, office and social area.
Production at the plant has started with three injection moulding machines, Craemer said 31 Oct, adding that more would be added as the business is further developed.
Craemer UK launched its first production plant in Hortonwood in 2006, and has increased turnover from £5m in 2016 to £27.8m in 2018.
“After expanding the premises to a total of 3.6 hectares in 2013, we had reached our limits and needed to find an area for expansion as close as possible,” explained Steve Poppitt, managing director of Craemer UK.
The new production unit is built on a 5.3-hectare piece of land, less than a mile away from the company’s first production plant.
“The expansion is already generating over 30 new jobs at Telford as a direct result of Site B development and there will be more by the end of this year,”said Steve Poppitt.
At full capacity, the new site will create up to 70 jobs.
The facility features large machinery to add new products to Craemer UK’s portfolio: a range of four-wheeled commercial waste bins and pallet boxes.
Until recently, Craemer’s 1,100 litre wheelie bin (neo4), which were launched in 2018, could only be manufactured at the company’s Herzebrock headquarters – due to the size of the machinery required.
Featuring a 5,500-tonne injection moulding machine, the new Telford site has started the production of neo4 bins in the UK.
In addition, the production of Craemer’s first pallet box designed in-house, launched to the market in 2017, is expected to start in the UK soon.
