The GUF Tool in action in Valencia
The City Council of Valencia will soon acquire through its Service of Renewable Energies and Climate Change, a total of 71 benches made with 100% recycled material, for an approximate amount of 17,000 euros.
This acquisition of green public purchase has been possible thanks to the use of the GUF Tool which facilitated the inclusion of environmental criteria and specifications to be met by any urban furniture bought by the public administration. In this case, a company (CM Plastik) was selected for the manufacturing of the 71 benches as it fulfilled all the requirements demanded by the GUF TOOL.
These benches, which will be 100% recycled and recyclable material, will look like wood, will be resistant, will be isolated thermally and electrically, will not be oxidized, will be waterproof, will be inert to environmental degradation and will have a minimum maintenance because they are easy to clean and have almost unlimited durability.
Amongst the environmental criteria and specifications set with the help of the GUF tool, the City Council of Valencia integrated in its procurement that the material and the lining of the benches must not be treated with preservatives nor with toxic or carcinogens substances, or that the final furniture must be labelled with the EU eco-label. In addition, it also included requirements on the assembly and disassembly of the benches in order to prevent this process from being destructive.
The benches will be installed by the Council's Maintenance and Infrastructure Service everywhere in the city.
