Development of storage bin using lantana camara flour reinforced polypropylene composites: product performance study on the composite bin for pharmaceutical applications
In this work, lantana-polypropylene (PP) composites were investigated with four different coupling agents. An in-house synthesized m-isopropenyl-?, ?-dimethyl-benzyl isocyanate-grafted-polypropylene (m-TMI-g-PP), and three commercially available maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) of different grades (427845, CA100, and P613) were used as coupling agents for the benefit of improving the bonding between the lantana flour and PP. The composites specimens were prepared with 40% and 50% of lantana flour with and without coupling agents and the results are compared with PP. The biodegradation of the lantana/PP composites was evaluated by measuring the percentage of weight loss that occurs in the specimen. Among the four coupling agents, MAPP (grade 427845) shows good results. The storage composite bins were produced using this coupling agent with 40% and 50% lantana flour. The product performance study shows that the composite containing 40% lantana flour loading bins results in better compression strength and less damage occurs in the drop test when compared to the 50% lantana flour loading. This product can be utilized as a toolbox in any sector and it helps to reduce the environmental impact.
