Participation of the Universitat Jaume I in life future project

The Universitat Jaume I (Spain), abbreviated UJI, is a young institution founded in 1991. Currently, it has around fourteen thousand students scattered across a wide range of degree, master and doctoral programmes in almost all disciplines from medicine, economy, law, humanities to studies of science and engineering. 


Six European institutions participate in LIFE FUTURE project, including UJI. Rosario Vidal, Teresa Gallego and Núria Sánchez-Pantoja, professors and researchers of the Mechanical Engineering and Construction Department, with extensive teaching and research experience in the fields of sustainable architecture and industrial products eco-design, compose the UJI work team for the LIFE FUTURE project.


Their main responsibility in the LIFE FUTURE project is the design and implementation of a computer tool called GUF TOOL, which will assist public administrations in the process of urban furniture public procurement. The tool includes environmental criteria that will advise in the most sustainable bid selection during decision-making; therefore, it is not necessary for the user to be an expert in the field.


The main objectives for the GUF TOOL design is to be user friendly for the public authorities, as well as it should encourage urban furniture manufacturers to introduce eco-design strategies.


Other actions, in which the team has a significant participation, are the environmental criteria definition and the development of unitary indicators of impact categories by materials and by product types, both essential to implement the GUF TOOL. Furthermore, they are responsible for monitoring the environmental benefit provided by the deployment of the LIFE FUTURE project.
