Mobile game key to unlocking good recycling habits'
Launched last year by Deloitte Digital, Up Up Hippo is a program starring a clumsy hippopotamus who needs the help of real-world plastic bottles to move around his world. By crushing bottles, players help the hippo to fly, swim, jump and complete his mission to dispose of bottles the correct way.
The hippo hero and his environment are all balloon-like and inflatable, with the air crushed from the plastic bottles driving him forward in his world, simultaneously teaching kids to crush their empty water bottles to make more room for them in the recycling and reduce rubbish overflow in public recycling bins, thereby reducing the amount of litter that enters the environment because it has escaped the sorting system.
Uncrushed plastic bottles increase bin volume by 80 per cent, and yet most adults do not bother to reduce the size of their packaging before they toss it out. Children, however, can learn good habits afresh, which is why PepsiCo Poland is affiliated with Deloitte Digital on the Up Up Hippo project.
