French companies establish innovative partnership to build better trains

France's national railway company SNCF has come together with French rail transport company Alstom to form an innovation partnership that will see teams from both companies work together to design and produce the new generation of TGV trains. The partnership will focus on developing new technologies and industrial strategies to ensure higher speed trains with reduced operating costs.

The new TGV trains are expected to be more environmentally friendly than those currently in operation, with a reduction in energy consumption of at least 25 percent. They will also offer greater quality in terms of service, comfort and connectivity.

The project team will collaborate with other professionals in France, including engineering and design schools. The new trains will enter into commercial service in 2022 following a detailed design, industrialisation and approval process. Around 4,000 jobs are expected to be generated for the French rail sector as a result of the project.
