BASF holds global Science Symposium in Shanghai to explore future urban living
Shanghai, China – September 16, 2015 – By 2050, more than 70% of the world population will live in cities. This has created the pressing need for new solutions for daily life. Leading scientists and urban planning experts will gather at BASF’s Creator Space™ Science Symposium on November 10 and 11, 2015, in Shanghai, China to provide latest insights into the area of sustainable urban living. The symposium is part of the worldwide Creator Space™ program for the 150th anniversary year of BASF.
The event will feature discussions on innovative ideas to improve the quality of water and housing, enable urban mobility and in general ensure our quality of life, with the participation of more than 200 leading scientists from various disciplines, including Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dr. Jean-Marie Lehn.
BASF Science Symposium focuses on sustainable urban living
“The overall urbanization rate in Asia Pacific is increasing rapidly and expected to reach 50% in 2026. In our Creator Space Science Symposium in Shanghai, we will bring together scientists from around the world. Together we will discuss intelligent and affordable solutions that take into account the regional economic, environmental and social needs,” said Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Vice Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors and Chief Technology Officer, BASF SE.
Key topics include accessibility to clean drinking water for a growing urban population, energy efficient cars that have a lower impact on the environment and smart materials for healthy living and comfortable housing in confined spaces.
BASF is holding three global science symposia in 2015 – on smart energy in Ludwigshafen, Germany (held in March), sustainable food chain in Chicago, United States (held in June) and on sustainable urban living in Shanghai, China. The symposia represent special highlights in the series of co-creation activities during the anniversary year. Through co-creation, the company connects people and ideas around the globe with the aim of jointly developing new solutions to global challenges.
