UK government offers millions in funding for innovative healthcare technology

UK businesses are invited to apply for up to £10 million in funding to develop innovative ideas to improve the healthcare sector. Innovate UK, the UK government's innovation agency, is looking for ideas for technologies that will help with disease prevention and the management of health and chronic conditions, improve detection and diagnosis of disease, and provide tailored treatments, particularly those that offer potential cures.

The competition has two awards, with "early-stage awards" going to projects that intend to test a well-developed concept and show its effectiveness, and "feasibility studies" that explore and test the commercial potential of early-stage ideas.

Early-stage awards can range in funding size from £200,000 to £1.5 million and should last two years. Feasibility studies can cost up to £200,000 and should last between three months and one year. Applications must be submitted before noon on 14 September 2016 (registration should be completed by 7 September) and an SME must lead each of the projects.
