£19 million available to test innovative infrastructure technology

Businesses in the UK can apply for a share of £19 million in funding to test new infrastructure technologies in real-world conditions. The funding is being provided by Innovate UK, the UK government's innovation agency. The aim of the competition is to find technologies that are market ready, as well as determining those that require further development.

Through the testing, the technology should prove that it delivers the expected outcome and has a viable business case. The competition will be in two phases. Projects pursued under the 'funded study' phase will last for up to three months and are eligible for a total of £50,000.

Projects under the 'testing the innovation in a commercial environment phases' can receive between £250,000 and £5 million and must be deployed within one year. At least one SME must be involved in all projects. Applications will be received until 31 August 2016, with online registration required by noon on 24 August 2016.
