The GLCN on SP makes commitments public

The 10 cities constituting the Global Lead City Network on Sustainable Procurement have made their commitments within the network public through their official website "“ www.glcn-on-sp.org. Seoul (Republic of Korea), Auckland (New Zealand), Cape Town (South Africa), Denver (USA), Ghent (Belgium), Helsinki (Finland), Oslo (Norway), Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Quezon City (Philippines), and Warsaw (Poland) have declared they will take an exemplary role globally in the implementation of sustainable procurement by setting quantified targets and defining a strategy to meet them. Cities are currently working on determining these ambitious individual targets and will announce them before the end of 2016.

The GLCN on SP cities have also committed to act as global and regional champions of sustainable procurement, so as to encourage other local governments to recognise the enormous opportunity to promote sustainability and innovation through procurement. Mayor of Seoul Park Won Soon, Chair of the GLCN on SP, affirmed that "we, the cities participating in the Network, try to protect the Earth through sustainable public procurement. Let us write history together that provides a sustainable future for both the humankind and the environment".

Participating cities have also stated that they will cooperate with other cities in the network to push rapid and effective implementation on the ground. With the support of ICLEI, cities will exchange knowledge and good practices. During the 1st Summit of the GLCN on SP, held at COP21 in Paris (France), representatives from the network cities presented the SPP activities carried out by their governments. The presentations are available on the city pages.
