Glasgow's new centre of innovation expected to boost economy

A newly opened centre of innovation in Glasgow (United Kingdom) "“ The Tontine "“ is expected by city officials to inject £53.6 million into the economy of the Glasgow city region. The Tontine building is intended to support innovative industries that will bring future economic growth, and by doing so will encourage public procurement of innovation among nearby local authorities. The centre will support and sustain the development of high-growth companies in the technology, advanced design and manufacturing, and creative economy sectors.

There are three parts to the Tontine: the Centre for Civic Innovation, where innovation through collaboration between the public sector and private enterprise (particularly small and medium sized businesses) will be explored; the Open Innovation Pilot Programme, where best practice on the development and commercialisation of innovative technology will be shared and developed; and DEMOLA, an international platform for the co-creation of new products or services.

Councillor Mark Macmillan, Leader of Renfrewshire Council, said: "The Tontine is a great example of innovation supporting enterprise. This great building with its tremendous architectural legacy has been creatively restored as an inspiring business environment."
