Unveiling the Interfaces between ?? Precipitates in Mg–Gd–Y–Zr Alloy: Insights from Atomic?Scale HAADF?STEM

Previous studies about the precipitation in Mg–Gd–Y–Zr alloy show that the transformation of to subsequent precipitate structures takes place at the interfaces between the . However, the interfaces between precipitates were barely studied. The present study using atomic?scale HAADF?STEM is aimed to fully unveil the interfaces between the precipitates. The results show that the interfaces can be categorized into four types that present in large quantities. A type I, type I, or type IV interface contains a gap between two precipitates, while a type III interface contains a transitional structure named as . In addition, the results show that observations from two directions are needed in order to identify complicated interfacial structures.
