Kia, Bcomp bring circular composites to Concept EV2 vehicle
Unveiled at Kia’s EV Day in Barcelona, the Concept EV2 is an electric SUV that embodies Kia’s forward-thinking approach to urban mobility. Designed for an active, connected lifestyle, the Concept EV2 is said to be Kia’s vision on how compact EVs can be redefined, offering a spacious, multi-configurable interior and an aesthetic that seamlessly integrates form with function.?
AmpliTex materials play a crucial role in the SUV’s interior design, replacing conventional synthetic materials. Delivering lightweight and circularity by nature, Bcomp’s solutions also offer end-of-life benefits, supporting a more environmentally conscious approach to automotive interior design, including recycling the components into composite pellets — a new base material — to serve a second life.?
Bcomp worked closely with Color, Materials, Finish (CMF) designers at Kia’s Europe Design Center to develop a custom dark blue color finish, enhancing the vehicle’s visual appeal. The Kia team specifically ampliTex in the Concept EV2’s back seat shell and front seat substructures.?
Building upon Bcomp’s previous collaboration with Kia on its Concept EV3 and Concept EV4 models, the Concept EV2 brings bio-based materials to the mass market, offering an alternative to plastic and carbon fiber while aiming to make electric mobility more accessible and environmentally responsible. As consumers place greater importance on the importance of interiors, with modern, sustainable cabin design, Kia believes this becomes a key differentiator for manufacturers. The Concept EV2 is anticipated to launch in 2026.
"Bcomp’s expertise in bio-based composites has allowed us to redefine what’s possible in automotive interiors,” says Nathalie Bucher, senior designer CMF at Kia Europe Design Center. “Their dedication to working closely with our design team ensures that every material aligns perfectly with our vision, reinforcing our commitment to creating stylish, environmentally aware and high-quality vehicles for the future.”?
