CNG Fuel Systems on trucks and buses
Agility Fuel Systems, the leading designer and producer of natural gas fuel storage and delivery systems for heavy duty trucks and buses, announced that UPS has ordered Agility's new Behind-the-Cab CNG fuel systems for delivery in the third quarter of 2016.
Applications, Mass Transportation, Other sectors, Filament Winding, Carbon Fiber, Thermosetting ResinsUPS has led the industry in the adoption of natural gas in heavy duty on-road trucking and, with this new order, will be operating over 1,700 heavy duty trucks equipped with Agility natural gas fuel systems.
These 700 mile range systems will be delivered out of Agility's new world-class manufacturing facility in Salisbury, North Carolina. On-time delivery and industry-leading quality standards continue to keep Agility Fuel Systems at the forefront of the natural gas transportation world.
This innovative Behind-the-Cab CNG fuel system delivers market-leading packaging efficiency by fitting up to six inches closer to the cab for improved aerodynamics and leaving more available rail space for transporting freight. This new model's structure and covers are designed with high-strength, lightweight aluminum to offer maximum strength-to-weight ratio. Improved flow dynamics in all the fittings provides faster filling and most usable fuel on board.
The fuel system is built with an aircraft-grade aluminum structure mounted on rubber isolators to reduce stress on components ensuring maximum durability. The four Hexagon Composites cylinders are carbon fiber wrapped and neck-mounted with anti-spin design to eliminate tank rotation that can stress fuel lines. Agility utilizes Geomet coated fasteners for ultimate corrosion protection and the pre-treated aluminum covers are painted at Agility's automated world-class paint facility to provide a world class automotive grade finish.
Natural gas use as a transportation fuel provides both financial payback and critical environmental benefits, with Carbon Dioxide (CO2) reductions of 25% and Nitrous Oxides (NOx) savings of 40%. CO2 is a primary source of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere while NOx represents the main contributor to smog in urban areas.
"Agility's vision is to transform the transportation world by designing the most innovative, clean natural gas systems in the market today to ensure a more sustainable future. We are proud to collaborate with UPS to enable the use of clean burning natural gas as a transportation fuel on such a significant scale showing that this technology is a reality today" said Kathleen Ligocki, Chief Executive Officer of Agility Fuel Systems.
