Las Naves installs 71 benches made of 100% recycled material
71 new benches have appeared in the street of Valencia last August 2018. Made of 100% of recycled material, these benches have been installed by the Department of Renewable Energies and Climate Change of Valencia City Council, through Las Naves, as a pilot purchase within the LIFE FUTURE project. Indeed, these benches were acquired through a green public procurement procedure which has been facilitated by the use of the GUF Tool.
This purchase is expected to be a first green public procurement pilot that will encourage other green procurement processes of the municipality. As highlighted by Berto Jaramillo, Councillor for Renewable Energies and Climate Change, the GUF TOOL allowed Valencia “to follow sustainability and transparency criteria in the procurement processes of the municipality.” “Companies have been encouraged to fulfil the sustainable criteria required and we would like to see this model to be installed in all procedures. Our aim is to see the GUF Tool intensively used in the municipal administration ", he added.
Berto Jaramillo also pointed out that “green public procurement helps reducing energy consumption, the volume of waste generated, pollution, etc. The LIFE FUTURE project addresses the need for public purchase of products that respect the environment. Green public procurement boosts companies’ competitiveness through eco-innovation and contributes to promoting local economy, encouraging local companies to work with environmental criteria.”
A map with the location of every bench in the city has been elaborated. In addition, to further promote the project, a QR code is stamped on the benches. Upon scanning it, citizens can receive information on the LIFE FUTURE project.
