Publications on GPP and Circular Procurement
Two brochures have lately been published on the topic, analysing the links between public procurement (and GPP in particular) and circular economy.
• Public procurement for a Circular Economy
Published by the European Commission in October 2017, the brochure on Circular Procurement provides an introduction to the European policy framework and practical guidance to those involved in public procurement decisions. The guidance is complemented by good practice experiences from across Europe demonstrating how circular economy principles are being employed in public procurement.
• Green Public Procurement and the EU Action Plan for the Circular Economy
Provided at the request of the ENVI Committee of the European Parliament, the study assessed the applicability of ongoing green public procurement initiatives and showed how they contribute to the European Commission’s Action Plan on the Circular Economy. The document provides an overview of the current status of GPP in the EU, explores the capabilities of interaction and cross-impacts between GPP and the circular economy, focusing in particular on the challenges in implementing GPP in the context of the circular economy.
With the proposed recommendations the involved parties are offered possibilities and options for a better approach in the future.
