Biesterfeld And Gummiwerk KRAIBURG Expand their Successful Partnership

New distribution rights for KRAIBON® products in South Africa and UK

Biesterfeld, one of the international leading distribution and service companies in the field of plastics, rubber, specialty chemicals and ingredients, and Gummiwerk KRAIBURG, a leading manufacturer of rubber and silicone compounds, have expanded their strategic sales partnership with immediate effect. Biesterfeld now holds new distribution rights for Gummiwerk KRAIBURG’s product range KRAIBON® in South Africa and in the UK, and is thus serving as exclusive distributor across whole Europe, except for Italy.

KRAIBON® – Elastomers as the perfect enhancement for composites
KRAIBON® is a thin foil made of unvulcanized rubber, developed by Gummiwerk KRAIBURG and employed in automotive, sport and leisure fields as well as many industrial applications. The KRAIBON® product family improves the performance of composites with regard to acoustics, light weight, splinter and impact resistance. Its distinguishing features are excellent adhesion, flexibility and short cycle times in production.

The KRAIBON® product range includes five specialized elastomers:
• KRAIBON® Impact = for impact & splinter protection
• KRAIBON® Hybrid = for multi-material bonds
• KRAIBON® Damp = for noise insulation and high damping
• KRAIBON® Temp = for high-temperature applications
• KRAIBON® Fire = for fire protection applications

All materials offer high energy absorption and a long, reliable service life. It’s easy to cut to size, handle, and integrate directly into your application. With excellent structure-borne noise insulation and strong adhesion to all common thermosetting resin systems, it forms a permanently flexible bond that enhances component acoustics. Suitable for use as both an internal and external layer, it provides reliable protection for underlying materials and is easy to drape. The elastomers ensure versatility and performance across a wide range of uses in the field of sports, automotive, motorsport, medicine (incl. orthoses), marine and urban air mobility (e.g. air taxis).

Reusable silicone vacuum bags for sustainable production
Gummiwerk KRAIBURG’s specialized product offering also includes sustainable silicone vacuum bags. The silicone vacuum covers find use in the production of high-quality composite components and are available in five different variants, each developed to meet specific requirements depending on the application. Thanks to the reusability, they ensure a faster, more efficient production as well as less waste.

The silicone vacuum products offer a hardness range from 20 ShA to 90 ShA and provide excellent resistance to hot air, cold, oxygen, ozone, and UV light. They can withstand high temperatures up to 220°C, with short-term resistance up to 300°C. The materials have very good electrical insulation properties and excellent physiological characteristics. The base material is odorless, and the silicones exhibit low temperature dependence of many mechanical and electrical properties. Direct bonding to glass is possible, and they show good to medium swelling resistance to a wide range of media.

„Our partnership has been in place since March 2023 and we are very excited about this next step. Gummiwerk KRAIBURG’s products fit perfectly into our Composites & Tooling portfolio and are very well received by our customers. With the new territories, we can now serve even more customers with the high-quality products of the KRAIBON® product range” claims Dr. Johannes Martin, Market Manager Performance Products at Biesterfeld.

Johannes Helldobler, Product Manager for KRAIBON® at Gummiwerk KRAIBURG confirms: “We could not be more pleased with our cooperation with Biesterfeld. Over the past two years, Biesterfeld has significantly contributed to the further development of our KRAIBON® business and we benefit from a number of advantages through the partnership, such as: a reduced MOQ, shorter delivery times, the very high technical consulting competence of the expert team and an all-round first-class service for our customers. Expanding our partnership therefore felt like the most logical thing to do for us.”
