BASF expands its global insecticide portfolio
BASF has received the first global registrations in Australia and India for the
new active ingredient, Inscalis® insecticide. The company anticipates further registrations in the United States (U.S.), Canada, Mexico, China, and Argentina. The active ingredient was discovered by the Japanese company Meiji Seika Pharma Co. Ltd (Meiji) and the Kitasato Institute, specifically 2015 Nobel Prize recipient, Doctor Satoshi Omura, and co-developed with Meiji. BASF also reached the next milestone for the insecticide active ingredient Broflanilide. The company submitted the regulatory dossier in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, India and Australia, with additional registration submissions planned in upcoming years for key markets worldwide. Inscalis® insecticide and Broflanilide are two pioneering and highly-effective insecticide active ingredients that will strengthen BASFâ??s insect-control offering.
â??Inscalis insecticideâ??s unique mode of action is a result of collaborative and innovative scientific methods, like white biotechnology, leveraged to create a precise solution for controlling piercing-sucking pests, including hemiptera, such as aphids, whiteflies, psyllids, scales, and leafhoppers, and it is the first of its kind in the BASF portfolio,â? said Neil Bentley, Vice President Global Strategic Marketing, Insecticides, BASFâ??s Crop Protection division. Derived from a natural fermentation process, Inscalis® insecticide has a favorable environmental profile exhibiting minimal impact to important beneficial arthropods and pollinators. With a quick onset of action, Inscalis® insecticide quickly stops insect pestsâ?? feeding, reducing nutrient loss and vectoring of harmful viral/bacterial pathogens. The results are healthier plants and optimal yields with higher quality. Inscalis® insecticide will be available in several high-performing formulations to provide farmers with an essential tool for resistance and integrated pest management programs.
Broflanilide is a powerful and versatile insecticide for farmers and pest management professionals seeking a top-performing pest control tool. Co-developed with Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc. (MCAG), it has a novel mode of action (IRAC Group 30) without known cross-resistance that delivers excellent efficacy in controlling problematic chewing insect pests, including Lepidoptera, beetles, and certain thrips in specialty and row crops, and urban and rural pests such as termites, ants, cockroaches and flies. Broflanilide insecticide also has exceptional performance in cereal seed treatment for wireworm control.
â??This milestone with Broflanilide supports our goal of developing an insecticide portfolio that helps farmers worldwide,â? said Juergen Huff, Senior Vice President Global Strategic Marketing, BASF Crop Protection. â??The new active ingredient reaffirms our commitment to work across geographies ensuring our customers are able to treat a variety of crop and non-crop pests with powerful and versatile new solutions.â?
The development of Inscalis® insecticide and Broflanilide demonstrate BASFâ??s ongoing focus on providing innovative and effective solutions to help farmers produce healthy, high quality crops safely and profitably.
