19 February 2018 European sustainable development week set to take place in MayNow in its 4th year, the 2018 European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW)
will take place from 30 May - 5 June. The ESDW is a Europe-wide initiative to stimulate and make visible activities, projects and events that promote sustainable development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Last year's ESDW saw over 4,000 registered events that spanned 30 European countries and attracted an estimated 360,000 participants.
Building on the success of the previous editions, this year's ESDW will again focus on events and activities linked to the SDGs in an effort to raise more awareness and support for them. A particular emphasis will be placed on the SDGs that will be covered by the UN's High Level Political Forum (HLPF)
2018, which takes place from 9 - 18 July 2018 in New York (USA).
The theme of this year's HLPF is "˜Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies', and will address SDG 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all; SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all; SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable; SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns; SDG 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss; and SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
